THE
MERLINS
The 14th Eastleigh Scout and Guide Band "Training Band"
"The Merlins" were formed in late 2009 in a restructure to accommodate a sudden increase of beginner members. The band always used to hold sectionals on a weekly basis, where instrument tuition would be provided by a senior member of the band, however due to busy engagement schedules and the fast progression of the band this was no longer possible.

Meeting on alternate Fridays from 18:45 - 20:00, The Merlins focus on learning the basics - reading music, music theory , instrumental technique and playing as an ensemble, providing them with an excellent knowledge base before the step up into the main concert and marching band. As the majority of The Merlins are young members, their meetings are often split up with musical related games and fun activities.

The Merlins is run by Assistant Bandmaster, Jane Montgomerie, along with a team of young leaders, many of whom are section leaders within the band.

Members of The Merlins are heavily encouraged to attend Spitfires rehearsals and attend all events with both ensembles to gain experience. We have no audition policy - everyone is automatically invited to perform out on our public engagements straight away, but we do realise that this is very daunting for beginner members - so this is why Merlins is perfect!
